Families of youths arrested by police during the Aug. 29 anti-government protest in Downtown Beirut demonstrated in the same area Monday evening to demand their release. The detained protesters, according to their families, are accused of rioting and causing damage to public and private property.
Nineteen people are still in detention after the release of nine, and are being held at the Rihaniyeh prison near Baabda. They include six minors, who their families say have not been given the right to be represented by any lawyer.
One of the protesters told The Daily Star that her son is only 14 years old.
