Construction workers Wednesday uncovered an unexploded Israeli ordnance left over from the July 2006 war, near the southern town of Khiam in Marjayoun.

Workers had been installing a drinking water network in the al-Halahiya area west of Khiam when they made the find.

Lebanese Army and UNIFIL forces arrived and inspected the missile, and will either move it or detonate it on the spot after the Army’s engineering unit prepares a report.

The 2006 war, fought between Hezbollah and Israel, critically damaged much of Lebanon’s infrastructure, especially in the south. Over 1,100 Lebanese people, mostly civilians, were killed in the fighting, in addition to 165 Israelis, most of them soldiers.
