The Monday Market defied the Israeli occupation to stay open week after week, but an escalating trash crisis has brought it to its knees, protesters complained Tuesday in front of Nabatieh’s Serail. The crowd represented a broad spectrum of the governorate’s society – including civic leaders, Baath Party and Hezbollah representatives, merchants, leftists and first aid responders – who called on officials to open waste facilities and resume garbage collection. They also bemoaned electricity rationing, the inadequate water supply and demanded that the city’s three MPs resign.
