South Lebanon residents scuffle with U.N. force

A scuffle between a UNIFIL patrol with south Lebanon locals resulted in material damage.

Several young men from the town of Mansouri in Tyre district intercepted the way of an Italian patrol working with the UNIFIL and hurled stones at the military vehicles, a source told The Daily Star.

The locals said that the patrol trespassed over private property, the source reported.

“UNIFIL patrol vehicles had to push aside some civilian vehicles used as roadblocks in order to safely pull out from the locations”, a UNIFIL statement said.

“There were no injuries to UN peacekeepers, but severe damages were caused to UNIFIL vehicles”, the statement added.
